Bharti's Tablet Computer, a Challenger to iPad

While the competition between the global players is peaking up, domestic players started their race in the domestic market in India. India, one of the largest telecom market in the world is facing tough competitions from both global and domestic players. The major companies like Apple, Samsung etc are competing to tap the India's 1.2 billion predicted customers. The market conditions in India are slightly different from the markets in the developed countries. Here the customers look for feature packed durable product at affordable prices. This puts the competitors in the peril.
Now the domestic players started their race by introducing low cost feature packed tablet computer in the market. This is a big blow to the global competitors. Beetel Teletech, the phone - equipment arm of Bharti Enterprises has launched a tablet at just Rs 9999/- ($220). The tablet is 18 cm (7 inch). The tablet is named Magiq tablet. It is packed with 8 GB memory that can be expanded to 16 GB, 3G, WiFi, front and rear 2MP camera. Tablet runs on the Android 2.2 Operating System.
Since Magiq is cheaper than iPad, Galaxy tab and Reliance Communication's Android Tablet, Bharti is hopping to gain a good market share. But there is also opinion among the market watchers that only a small portion of the Indian population can afford this tablet computers and the remaining population even not thinking about the need for the tablet PC. But the silver lining for domestic players is the market share of the domestic players has gone up to 18 percent from less than one percent in 2008.

Anna Hazare in India, Jhangir Ahktar in Pakistan

The anti corruption movement led by Anna Hazare has been dominating the medias not only in India, but also in all over the world. The western media have started giving the news in front page of their publications. Yet another Gandhi to conquer the minds of the whole world. Bravo Anna Hazare...

The corruption occurs not only in India but all over the world. But the magnitude and extend of corruption varies from country to country. In India corruption came to the lime light with the exposing of the 2G scam, Common Wealth Games SCAM, ISRO - Devas multimedia scam, Adarsh scam etc etc....The magnitude of these scam is huge means there is lot of money involved in this scam. What made people angry is poor social spending while corruption and accumulation of wealth in certain sections of the society dominated by politicians. Later the reluctance of the Government to bring back the illegal money in Swiz Bank add fuel to fire.
Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh admitted that he had to compromise on several occasions to prevent the falling of government and to go for elections on every six months since there is no single party to have majority to run the government. But Anna Hazare didn't care for the government, he cares for his country. This made him a world hero.
Now a business man from Pakistan is also preparing to launch a hunger strike against the corruption and high budget spending for the army in Pakistan. He said that Anna Hazare was not his inspiration. He decided to launch hunger strike even before Hazare starting fast unto death. He has to postpone his strike due to Ramadan. He will start his hunger strike soon after Ramadan. He wanted the Government of Pakistan to make a law against corruption and also to reduce the army spending. He also want the government to increase the spending on social welfare. Present spending is only 2 % of the budget spending. He want to change all this.
But the situation in Pakistan is not like India. The Indian government is against protest, but didn't cause causalities for the protesters. India respects human rights. The venue for Anna Hazare's protest has been well checked by security personal for Anna's Security. The government fears the public. But in Pakistan, the situation is not so. The situation is volatile in Pakistan. The anti-India sentiments is alleviating. People are not safe from terrorism. Even military lacks capability to combat terrorism. The media has restrictions in Pakistan which will prevent the motivation of people at a larger scale. So the chance for the success of the hunger strike by this poor business man is low means it is a distant dream.

Brain Chips from IBM

Don't you imagine about computers that have the capacity to learn themselves and act according to the situation? The terminator series from Hollywood gives a high level imagination in this respect. The Tamil Movie Enthiran (The Robot) goes even a step further. The scientists around the world have been working very hard to make a system that can learn from the surrounding and can act according to it. Even though there is some stories of Artificial Intelligence with a little success is common, a chip with this capability was a distant dream for many researchers. Now the researchers at IBM has developed a new chip - a 'brain chip'.

The new concept is completely taken from the biological knowledge. Once again the engineers have to depend on the supreme engineer God to make a breakthrough. The new chip has been made by the 'reverse engineering of the brain'. The chip works by its connection as it comes across new information. You may now think - can chip can make new connection by soldering and desoldering its own circuit? Definitely no. The chip will learn the new information and decides which connections are important and which are not. Then it will activate the important one by letting the signals pass through it smoothly, while the usage of less important are reduced. Thus new connections are established and useless ones are made idle.
The new invention has enabled us to think of robots doing house hold jobs without commanding anything to them, computer that searches for the information we require in the internet even without our mentioning.. oh oh the list is so long...It will lead to a revolution; think about operating system protects itself from viruses...

Why I support Anna Hazare

Now the real hero in India was the Gandhian and social activist Anna Hazare. His real name is Kisan Baburao Hazare. Now in every media from local news papers to internet, lots of Indians are supporting Anna's movement against corruption. The powerful UPA government is now shaken before the one and only Anna. He was really a hero not just for the movement against corruption, but for bringing a downtrodden village to fore front. The village has now became a model village. We doesn't need to wait for decades to see India became a super power if there were minimum of 25 Anna Hazares across India. The strictness of an army man and Satyagraha of a Gandhian made Anna Hazare a unique leader in India. He is a model not only for Indians, but for all the world.

In the beginning of the movement against corruption, I respected him. But the entry of Baba Ramdev completely blew all the respect for him. However the Government of India corrected their mistake in the later stage and this forced Ramdev to keep away from the anti corruption movement since he lost the support of the majority of the people. Now he must be under the scanner of Income Tax (IT) Department  and Enforcement Department (ED). He must be practicing yoga under a better Guru to get peace from IT and ED now. But yesterday I was surprised to see the protesters not even considering their health try to stop the car carrying Anna to Tihar jail where the corrupted people of the UPA government is jailed. Light and darkness in the same place. Heaven only knows what is the ethics behind this. Today I went through the article in Wikipedia about Anna Hazare. The article greatly influenced me. His action in Ralegan Siddhi made me think why I am so late to stand by the side of Anna and fight for corruption.

We are ready to get arrested and be beaten up but we have had enough of corruption. We are ready to sacrifice our lives
 - Anna Hazare
So now I support Anna by both mind and soul to fight against corruption. I admire Manmohan Singh for his reforms that made India a global player. But I hate a Prime Minister who keeps silence against corruption. I love UPA government, but I love my country more... JAI HIND.

S&P Maintained India's Sovereign Debt Rating Of BBB

Standard and Poor recently lowered the sovereign rating of USA to AA+ from AAA. This has impacted in the world wide markets. All major Stock Exchanges including that of the Asian countries like India have been affected. The President Obama tried to defend his country against the lowering of the rating by S&P. But it has created little effect on the investors.
In India, the government and economic think tanks are trying very hard to tame inflation. But the inflation rate is nearing the double digit at a rapid pace. The Reserve Bank has tightened the policy rate beyond the normal limits to tame inflation. Unfortunately it may have negative impact on the Indian economy since the industrial sector may be affected. We Indians can however be optimistic that the measures by the Reserve Bank may bear fruit.
There is a silver lining for Indians from the part of S&P. They have maintained the sovereign debt rating of India at BBB. The rating means that the economy is stable. But they indicated that the rating may go down in the long run if the government fails to stimulate its economy.
We Indians are somewhat safe though loose fiscal policy and the government's inability to carry forward economic reforms could have implications in the medium term. India has been struggling to deal with inflation, which is nearing the double-digit mark. Headline inflation stood at 9.44 per cent in June, while food inflation was 9.90 per cent for the week ended July 30. On the fiscal side, rising prices of crude oil and high food and fertilizer subsidies, coupled with the inability of the government to raise Rs 40,000 crore from the divestment of equity in public sector companies during 2010-11, could create problems.  However the agency maintained that future government initiatives to significantly reduce subsidies for fertilizers, foods and fuels would be a positive factor in improving the expenditure structure of the budget and reducing the negative influence of potential external shocks on India's fiscal position

Internet Access In Emerging India

Today the whole India is celebrating the independence day. To be an Indian we are very proud for achieving a tremendous growth in a short period after getting freedom from British rule. The ISRO, DRDO etc are some of the institutions in the front line that we can be proud of. It was during the 2008 global recession, India came to the limelight for its strong economic policies. The whole world is focused on India since it is the future global power.
But inside, the things are not so glamorous. There are lots of  food grains rotting while millions of its own citizens are starving. Lots of corruption, black money, tax evasion even by celebrities and so on. The list is too large. If you read Aravind Adiga's White Tiger, you will get a some what picture of what is happening in rural India.
I write this article after reading an article : India hungry for everyday Internet access. The article deals with the poor internet penetration in rural India while lots has to use it.

The above article says about a typical Indian youth, Srishti Sharma, 18,who has to face hurdles in accessing the internet. But I also have a story of my own. Read this:

I had my college education in College of Engineering Attingal. During my college studies, I want an internet connection. I am living in rural area. At that time the only service provider who gives internet connection to the rural area was BSNL. So I decided to take a BSNL broadband connection. So I went to the nearest telecom exchange at Chenkal. One of the staff who must be Junior Telecom Officer(JTO) told me that broadband connection is given only when there is a minimum of 12 applicants. So I inquired in my locality about the number of people who may take internet connection. But to my surprise,  all those who have PC is willing to take internet connection, but they are not willing to go through any hurdles in getting an internet connection. You may wonder what is the hurdle behind this. You will see.
I have however collected 6 people who were willing to take internet connection at any cost. But for our purpose we require 6 more. So I asked JTO for other options. He told me that there is also a high speed internet service which is unlimited and you have to pay only 250 rupees per month. The terms - High speed, Unlimited, Rs 250 changed my mind instantly. So I wrote an application and gave it to him with in a shart duration. But he rejected it saying that the application must be given to Neyyatinkara Telecom exchange and not in Chenkal exchange. So I set out to Neyyatinkara and meet the staff there and gave the application. He gave me a form and asked me to fill and enclose a DD of Rs 500/- from nationalized bank. See the hurdles.
I did what he told me. He gave me a print out and told me to hand over the photocopy of the printout to the Chenkal exchange. I did so and I got the connection. The speed of the connection is pathetic. Only two days a month, the speed will rise above 10 Kbps. At other time well below 5 Kbps. (Remember - high speed - unlimited - Rs 350 per month). These were not the only hurdles. Then comes the billing trouble(I am not describing it here because they promised me that there will be no manual faults from them and they are keeping it).
But today, if I am in such a situation, I just go to the nearest shop where we can take the mobile SIM, and an amount nearly Rs 2000 and will get a 3G module by IDEA company which is portable and pan India but will have to pay roaming charges if goes out of state, but faster than broadband and a monthly charge of Rs 110/-. While private firms are offering hurdle free service than state sponsored one, why should I not opt for private service?

Android Vulnerable To Attack

Today’s hero in the mobile phone operating system is Google’s Android. Today the world is seeing a huge demand for the Android powered smart phones and tabs than other products. Even Apple fears the popularity of Android. The Samsung which started using Android for its smart phone models Galaxy and for the tab even crossed estimated sales within a short period after the launch.
Android is a Open Source Operating System for mobiles designed and developed by Google. It is packed with lots of features and enhanced security features that many of the people who bought products running on Android are satisfied. But the reality seems to be different. The new findings shows that there are many fays in which hackers can exploit the vulnerable points of the Android Operating System. The researchers Riley Hassell and Shane Macaulay found out more than a dozen of the applications that are commonly used that can make phones vulnerable to attack. Some apps expose themselves to outside contact. If these apps are vulnerable, then an attacker can remotely compromise that app and potentially the phone using something as simple as a text message.
However the researchers didn’t disclose more details in the public domain since it may gave a chance for the hackers to start a series of attacks on the android phone users.

Fake Apple Stores in China

As you know China is famous for its cheap products. There is no other country in the world who can manufacture and sell products this much cheaper. The Chinese duplicate low cost products is affecting the markets world wide. But here the story is different.

In China they are selling the genuine Apple products, but smuggled from the west without paying taxes. The sales is carried out by shops which are not the authorized to sell Apple products. After a blog post by an American living in China, the Chinese authorities searched 300 stores and found out several fake stores. Chinese authorities have also ordered fake shops to shut down immediately.
Authorities in China’s southwestern city of Kunming have identified another 22 unauthorized Apple retailers weeks after a fake of the company’s store in the city sparked an international storm. - Reuters
United States and other western countries have accused China for not protecting the Intellectual Property Rights of the companies. This is the seventh time that China is listed in the US Trade Representative’s office as the one of the country with worst records in preventing copy right theft.

Software to beat Web censors

You may have experienced the problem of Web censorship that prevent you from visiting particular sites. For example in China, the censorship is so strict that you are even not able to access certain high definition Youtube videos. Most of the muslim dominated nations and some other nations censors websites with pornographic contents. In India, viewing pornographic materials is not a crime. But exhibiting pornographic material is a serious crime.
China is famous for having strict internet filters that prevent the Chinese citizens from visiting restricted sites. Some countries even block social networking sites on the grounds of social and religious sentiments.
Now a team of scientists have developed a software that could enable the citizens from the countries like China having strict internet filters to visit the website they want. The software is named Telex. This software hides data from banned websites inside traffic from sites deemed safe. It draws on well-known encryption techniques to conceal data making it hard to decipher. So far, Telex is only a prototype but in tests it has been able to defeat Chinese web filters.
Most of the anti-censorship programs works by connecting to a server outside the nation where the user lives. But this software operates within the network or the server in the nation where the user lives.
Now the censoring authorities have to design and develop new technology to block the unwanted websites.

The state run Telecom company BSNL has launched yet another ground breaking service in India after Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The new service is Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VVoIP).

Using this service BSNL customers can make audio and video calls at their will using land phone or mobile or Internet Protocol phone anywhere in the world, provided both ends must have video phones.
BSNL has partnered with Sai Infosystem (SiS) to make this a reality. The service was initially available in Ahmedabad. But by the end of this month, the service will be available in entire Gujarat. By the end of March 2012, whole India will be under the coverage. According to BSNL, the new service will be more economical than the conventional services. The customers will be charged 40 paise per minute for audio and Rs 2 per minute for video calls within the country using VVoIP. The international tariff is also low. The VVoIP service can be made available with a monthly rental of just Rs 150.
